So who is this Shaver guy anyway? I like to pretend a lot of people ask that question, but the reality is only a handful of people do. Probably because I’m not really a movie star or anything. I’m OK with that. Professionally, I’m a guy with almost 10 years experience in the digital/interactive industry. I started off with some pretty creative ambitions… to become an animator or character modeler at a vide game firm after completing a year of Computer Animation at Winnipeg’s very own Red River College. I quickly realized this probably wasn’t going to happen and being, um, the opportunist I am, took a job as a Project Manager at iC Group. Joel Parent, my current partner (professionally speaking) now and boss at the time kindly granted me this opportunity to set my career path straight. I pride myself on my ability to communicate. Through these many years of administration, project management, team meetings, brainstorm sessions, keeping up with current technologies and account management, I have realized my role in this world is to facilitate communication. I have a knack for translating ‘geek speak’ into ‘marketing gak’ and vice versa. This is what I do and I love it. If I can help the Director of Marketing understand why the Art Director doesn’t agree with her desire to have the brand logo rotating and flashing in 3D in the center of the screen, my work for the day is done and I go home proud. Other, more personal, stuff you can igore if you’d like… HOBBIES: Video games. I am a moderately obsessed gamer. Gaming seems to be the only hobby capable of keeping my adult-onset ADD (self-diagnosed) in check. I am so interested in gaming I started my own blog you can waste time at here: www.shave-reviews.com. Kiteboarding. I decided to take kiteboarding because I suck at sports. This was a new sport not many have been introduced to quite yet so I took the opportunity to learn it before the rest of the world has. I love it. It is my escape and one of the most important things in my life. Handyman-type-stuff. I love tearing stuff down and putting it back up again. With my shift to project management and sales I still needed a creative outlet that didn’t have to do with sitting in front of a computer. I take it out on many a wall with a toolbelt tightly fastened around my waist and a beer in hand. FUTURE ASPIRATIONS: Family. I want nothing more in life than to start and maintain a healthy, happy and creative family with my soon-to-be-wife, Kelsey. I want to be that Dad that all kids go home to and tell their own dad they should be like. Travel. I want to make sure I’m off this continent at least once every two years moving forward; ideally, once every year. I want to experience the world, not just read about it in National Geographic or watch programs on Discovery. I want to see Australia, Peru and kiteboard in as many locales as I possibly can before my body decides it can’t anymore. Respect. I don’t want to be famous and I don’t need everybody to like me but I do want to make sure that when I die, there are hundreds of people reflecting positively about what how I’ve contributed to their lives in even the smallest way possible. CONCLUSION: So that's me in a nutshell. I don't take things all to seriously and like to live life by one motto... "Expect nothing and everything is a gift." |
