The web is supposed to be a great equalizer for business. A small business can be as professional and impressive as a large scale company – provided it showcases the right features, content and functionality online. This was the goal for Steeves Agencies. What kinds of functionality do you want on a small business website? Well, for starters you want to see content that has been updated sometime recently (or you may think that the business isn’t even around anymore). Also the following don’t hurt: - Your content is findable via search engines
- Your content is easy to update using tools like Live Writer – which make posting news as easy as typing a Word document
- Sitewide search engine for users to quickly text search through your content
- social media integration options – like plugging in your twitter feed
- flexible sections/menus/categories for your content so if you want to try new ways of organizing content over time it isn’t a big deal
- contact form that doesn’t leave you susceptible to SPAM attacks
These features all got plugged into the final website and traffic has been consistent and growing – steady inquiries stream in because the site makes it easy for potential customers to kick the tires and determine if Steeves Agencies might have what they’re looking for. |

It’s a familiar story, a school has a site that was made by a teacher, but now that some IT staff and the teacher roster may have changed no-one knows how to make updates to the site… Where does that leave us? How do we use a website to communicate with our students and parents and how do we use it to attract new pupils/parents? So, this project was about putting together a system that could help solve all problems at once: - get a hub together that could be updated with news articles
- organize and post downloadable content like PDF files and word docs for community to access
- share school imagery
- provide private area for teacher’s to post blog articles about their classrooms which parents can access through their own login credentials
- Make it easy to update – no techies required
- Manage and share a calendar
- Provide a secure and safe contact form (without threat of spam)
That is precisely what was delivered. The site features the following: - ability to author and edit articles through a secure backend, or via Windows LiveWriter
- Google Calendar integration for calendar/event management
- full site AJAX text search
- Rendering for mobile device access
- secure contact form with auto CAPTCHA in case of detected scripting
- Registered-only area for parents and teachers to share news
AND all of this was delivered affordably for the school and with minimal recurring hosting costs. Contact us if you have questions or you’d like a quote for your website redesign or build. |
